For the location given we achieved the unachievable bringing us The Best Power Producer of 2018 award. The plant also consists of co-gen to meet the environmental aspect of going green. The plant has supplied 2000 GWh to the national grid since it’s commissioning.

UAEL is the first Joint Venture power plant project with the Government of Bangladesh located adjacent to Ashuganj Power Station Company Ltd. (APSCL). Back in the days the Power plant was first of its kind. No modular combined cycle plant existed.

We were the first to bring the new technology and received the best large Independent Power Producer (IPP) of 2016 from the Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources at the Power & Energy Week 2016. The natural gas plant has already got a very high efficiency for its fuel type and in additional it’s consisting of 20 MW co-gen which makes it even more environment friendly, showcasing our motive to go as green as possible in power production.

After successful commissioning of Dhaka EPZ plant, Malancha Holdings Ltd (Later renamed to United Power Generation & Distribution Co. Ltd) was awarded to operate another plant at Chattogram EPZ,to provide quality power supply to the industries housed within the Export Processing Zones (EPZ) of Bangladesh. 

After successful commissioning of Dhaka EPZ plant, Malancha Holdings Ltd (Later renamed to United Power Generation & Distribution Co. Ltd) was awarded to operate another plant at Chattogram EPZ,to provide quality power supply to the industries housed within the Export Processing Zones (EPZ) of Bangladesh. The company has built and is currently operating a Natural Gas fired 72 MW power plant in Chattogram EPZ, Halisohor, Chattogram.

The Chattogram EPZ plant is run with state-of-the-art European Reciprocating Engines which generates and delivers power to industries inside the EPZ. On top of supplying to the EPZ’s, the surplus energy is being provided to the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) to local grid in the region from Chattogram EPZ power plant.

Besides power generation, Chattogram EPZ plant also produces steam commercially for neighboring industries, by using Exhaust Gas Boilers (EGB), further improving power plant efficiency. In Dhaka EPZ, 3 Units of Khan SPP EGB installed. Currently, UPGD CEPZ has steam production capacity of 12 TPH

The entire EPC of the project was done by Neptune Commercial Ltd. (NCL), a subsidiary of United Group and both the projects enjoyed financing from World Bank’s IPFF fund.

The term of the Contract was extended for a further 5 years in two terms due to excellent operational record during its tenure. Completed in a span of 9 months, the works included the construction of 132/11 KV electrical substations and complete fuel oil handling facilities with Fuel tanks along with the main plant and machinery. KPCL began its Commercial Operation with Unit I on October 12th, 1998 at its plant in Goalpara, Khulna. The plant has a generation capacity of 110 MW and was commissioned within 11 months.

By doing so it became the first Independent Power Producer (IPP) in the private sector in the country. The project was financed by IFC and World Bank. The local EPC works of the project was carried out by Neptune Commercial Ltd. (NCL), a subsidiary of United Group. With an initial power supply agreement of 15 years, which was later extended for a further 5 years term, with the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), the project was developed on a build, own & operate basis. The project consists of building 132/11 KV substation, a pump house, fuel storage tank of 15000 tons, oil tanker berthing jetty including a man-made lagoon for placement of barges.
