In order to achieve this mission, ULOL has aligned with PETRONAS Lubricants International (PLI), the lubricants arm of Malaysia’s National Oil Corporation, PETROLEUM NASIONAL BERHAD. PETRONAS products are globally accepted and praised for achieving superior performance and meets global OEM standards. ULOL is the appointed sole distribution and manufacturing partner of PLI in Bangladesh for the delivery of global products to the Bangladesh market.

Together with PLI, we have spent the last 8 years to develop new products and have successfully set up a distribution network, extending our reach across Bangladesh. Gunze Ltd. is a 118 years old Japanese icon starting its journey in silk thread manufacturing and we took the initiative this brand to this country by forming a Joint Venture Company – Gunze United Ltd in March 2012. This marriage of Japanese technology and Bangladeshi human resource has been creating threads of unique and unparalleled quality, second to none.

Gunze United Ltd is located in the extension area of Dhaka Export Processing Zone having  a floor space of 105,000 sq. ft and equipped with best in class machineries hailing all the way from Japan and China.
 
This environment friendly factory has earned its fame by taking supply of steam from its sister concern, UPGD’s power plant adjacent to it, instead of burning scarce fossil fuel to produce steam.

Established in 1996, the factory is nestled in the heart of Burichong, Comilla, spread over 13 acres of land, with 1100 full-time dedicated workers managing and operating the plant around the clock. With 18,000 spindles initially, it was projected to go under a progressive expansion program and methodical development through scientific research, design and creative plan of operation. 

As it stands now, the plant has almost 66,500 functioning spindles being complimented by other high-end European machineries producing roughly 16 tons of yarn a day.

The journey of Comilla Spinning Mills Ltd. (CSML) started in the year of 1996 with 18,000 spindles only. United Group (UG) is having 50% shareholdings of CSML. UG came into this business by foreseeing the growth opportunity (during early 90’s) of the backward integration within garment sector as a basic industry along with creating employment opportunity for the society with regards to the socio-economic advancement.

CSML has grown up gradually and currently having 66,576 spindles with 16/17 tons/day capacity with the product range of cotton, blended and polyester yarns. Quality and consistency are the critical components in spinning industry which CSML had never compromised till date. And that is why CSML has earned a good reputation in the market. For the blended yarn, Comilla is a very popular name in the market. Beside serving the industry the CSML board and UG is very focused of helping the workforce with many CSR activities.

Considering the diversities in the textile sector, the Board along with the team is putting best effort for a better result and aligning that CSML is actively looking at the scope of modernizing the factory gradually for taking competitive advantages and to achieve efficiency. The intention is to remain a part in accelerating the developmental growth of Bangladesh and making the economy a sustainable.

To attain this goal, united group’s latest venture is United Chattogram Power Limited (UCPL), where the company is going to establish a 590 MW CCPP which can run both on Natural Gas and LNG. At its core is the country’s largest power plant with H-Class Gas Turbine in single shaft design to be established. The bringing of new and efficient technology got highly appreciated from BPDB as it will be a milestone for others to follow. United Group has always been a pioneer in bringing new technology to the power sector, notably our portfolio consists of the first barge mounted power plant and first modular power plant in Bangladesh. Signing of Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), Implementation Agreement (IA), Gas Supply Agreement (GSA) with respective bodies of the government has already been set in stone. Land has already been acquired and the project is now ongoing.

Our country having one of the most competitive labor prices in the world and having a sea port for logistics facilities, the concern was providing quality electricity 24/7, as during the time of set up of these EPZs, Bangladesh had an unstable grid. As united has been successfully operating two plants in DEPZ and CEPZ for more than a decade BEPZA awarded United Group with a new Project to provide electricity. In the pipeline awaits Leviathan Global BD Ltd., a 50 MW joint venture of united group in Karnaphuli EPZ. The plant is currently under construction and expected to be operational after completion.

UAnPL is by far our most ambitious completed project. It is one of the two biggest reciprocating engines genset plant with co-generation, of the country. The net capacity is 300 MW.

Because of its high reliability and availability, the plant has attained a staggering 99% Plant Factor even in off season(winter). With top class machineries and equipment’s, operated and maintained by top class engineers of the country the plant has supplied 2263 GWh since it’s commissioning date. Another notable reason is it’s 24 MW co-gen which gives the plant a comparatively high efficiency makes the plant also very environment friendly.
