United Jamalpur Power Ltd (UJPL) entered into a Power Purchase Agreement with Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) for the supply of 115 MW (net) electric power to the national grid of Bangladesh on 21 January 2018. On the same day, UJPL also entered into an Implementation Agreement with the Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources and Power Grid Company of Bangladesh for the implementation of a 115 MW (net) HFO fired power generation facility. Earlier, United Enterprises & Co. Ltd. (UECL), the Project Sponsor of UJPL, was awarded a Letter of Intent (LoI) upon being the only qualified and successful bidder for the project.
The 115 MW (net) HFO fired power plant will be located at Jamalpur Sadar, Jamalpur District of Mymensingh division. The power plant will house 12 brand new Wartsila 20V32E engines with 12 Waste Heat Recovery Boilers (WHRB)s an 1 steam turbine generator. The unique feature of this project will be its secondary power generation system which will not require any additional burning of fossil fuel as the boilers will generate steam from the exhaust of the engines. This will reduce emission levels, making the power plant comparatively environment friendly. The power plant is scheduled to come into operation by April 2019 as per the Required Commercial Date.
