United Mymensingh Power Ltd (UMPL) has commissioned its first Fast Track Power Plant at Jamalpur.
This 200 MW (net) HFO fired Power Plant is one of the 10 power plants awarded by the Government on
a fast track basis. United has implemented the project in a record time of 6.5 months, one week ahead
of the required commercial operations date, owing to the immediate need of electricity of the country
during the summer season.
UMPL’s 200 MW Power Plant uses a reciprocating engine-based technology housing 21 nos. of Wartsila
20V32E engines, 21 nos. of Thermax’s Waste Heat Recovery Boilers and 2 Nos. of Steam Turbine
Generators. The total installed capacity of the plant is 218 MW out of which 13.2 MW is generated from
Steam Turbine which does not require any additional fuel for power generation. Exhaust of the engines
are used to fire the boilers for producing the steam.
The power plant has added another 200 MW (net) to the national grid since the mid of June 2018.
