United Ashuganj Energy Ltd. is a 195 MW Combined Cycle, Modular power plant project implemented in joint venture with the Government of Bangladesh located on 6.48 acres of land inside the premises of Ashuganj Power Station Company Ltd., Ashuganj, Brahmanbaria.
This power plant facility, the first of its kind, employs high efficiency, state-of-the-art engines and has introduced an environment friendly co-generation facility. The Company signed the Implementation Agreement with the Government of Bangladesh, Power Purchase Agreement with Bangladesh Power Development Board, Gas Supply Agreement with Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Ltd., Land Lease Agreement and Share Purchase Agreement with Ashuganj Power Station Company Ltd. The project comprises of 20 units of Wärtsilä’s gas fired 20V34SG engines, 20 units of M. E. Energy Ltd.’s Waste Heat Recovery Boilers and 1 unit of Triveni Turbine Ltd.’s multistage, condensing steam turbine with a capacity of 16.1 MW. Power generated at 11 kV is dispatched at 230 kV through APSCL’s grid sub-station. The project was commissioned on 8 May 2015, much ahead of the required Commercial Operations Date and was financed by World Bank’s IPFF fund, IFC, DEG and Standard Chartered Bank.
United Ashuganj Energy Limited was presented with the Gold Award for Combined Cycle Plant of the Year in the Asia Pacific Region during the Asian Power Awards 2015 on 2 September 2015, hosted by Asian Power Magazine in Bangkok, Thailand, who recognizes the outstanding achievements in the Power Generation, Transmission & Distribution Industry in the Asia Pacific Region. The same project was also awarded Silver Award for Fast-Track Power Plant of the Year and Bronze Award for Gas Power Project of the Year.
In addition, this project won the award for “Best Large IPP of 2016”, honored by the Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources at the Power & Energy Week 2016.
